FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Choose a passage genre (fiction or non-fiction) and a length (quick, standard, or extended). A timer starts when you begin reading. When you finish, you can optionally answer comprehension questions to check your retention. You'll get your words per minute (WPM), pages per minute (PPM), and see how you compare to other readers.
- The average adult reads 200-250 words per minute (about 1-1.5 pages per minute). Above 350 WPM is considered fast, and 500+ WPM puts you in speed-reader territory. Reading speed varies by content type and you can read fiction faster than academic texts. What matters most is comprehension, not raw speed.
- The best way to read faster is to read consistently. Other techniques include: minimising subvocalization (the voice in your head), using a finger or pointer to guide your eyes, expanding your peripheral vision to take in more words per fixation, and reading widely to build vocabulary. ReadingHabit tracks your reading speed automatically over time so you can measure your improvement.
- Yes! After completing the test, you can send your result directly to the Reading Time Calculator, Reading Goal Planner, or TBR Stack Planner. Your pages-per-minute score pre-fills automatically so you get personalized estimates.
- Comprehension questions are optional! Your WPM and PPM score is based purely on how quickly you read the passage. However, if you answer the questions, your comprehension percentage appears alongside your speed. A high speed with low comprehension may mean you're scanning rather than truly reading.

A subscription is where ReadingHabit is heading, but the launch deal is renewal-free: one payment instead of about $8 a month for as long as you keep reading. At that rate, the one-time price pays for itself in about 15 months (and you have far more reading than that left in you).
Nothing renews and nothing expires. Once the subscription launches, this one-time price goes away. If you've already bought it, nothing about your account changes.
Yes! You can request a refund within 7 days of your purchase.
